Psychotherapy and counselling
in East London with Paul Vallance
Psychotherapy and counselling provide a safe, supportive, confidential space to explore ourselves, including how we relate to others and to our past and to our present experience.
Psychotherapy offers an opportunity to explore issues in greater depth, helping us know ourselves and the nature of our suffering more clearly, enabling us to live with more conscious choice, and greater confidence and freedom.
About Me
I am a qualified accredited psychotherapist. I trained at the Karuna Institute (www.karuna-institute.co.uk) and have an MA in Core Process Psychotherapy. I am registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (www.ukcp.org.uk).
Prior to training as a psychotherapist I worked in the NHS specialising in HIV prevention and sexual health, and mental health promotion.
In addition to maintaining a private practice I am one of the teaching team at the Karuna Institute and provide clinical and support services to psychotherapy trainees at the Minster Centre.
I have worked as a freelance researcher for the Healthcare Commission, National Patient Safety Agency and the National Academy of Parenting Practitioners. In 2007 I collaborated in the production of the book Life in a Hospice. Reflections on caring for the dying (www.radcliffe-oxford.com).
How I Work
I work psychodynamically, drawing on western approaches to psychology and the wisdom and compassion of Buddhism and other eastern philosophies.
Themes in therapy that interest me include:
• developing a stronger sense of self and identity• transforming depression and anxiety
• developing trust and confidence in relationships
• navigating midlife crisis/transition
• living with illness and dying • fulfilling creative and artistic potentials
• exploring sexual identity and difference • connecting with the spritual/sacred in life
Sessions and Fees
Sessions last 60 minutes and are usually weekly (£45 per session). Some lower fee spaces are available.
Location
I am based in east London, close to Leyton and Leytonstone underground stations on the Central Line, and Leyton Midland Road station on the Overground. Parking spaces are usually available in the street.
